Best Fish And Chips

Where do you buy the countries* best Fish and Chips?

Fish and chips are the original fast food. Everyone knows what they taste like, so lets just plough on...
Here are the rules. All we want is a portion of cod and chips. Nothing else. We don't give a crap about curried roles, haddock, chicken, burgers, pukka pies or anything like that. We will take into account, as always,  looks, taste, price, size, time to cook and the service / state of the shop.

Competition for the title 'Best Fish and Chip Shop' is likely to be fierce, so, when you send us an entry for your local chippy, send us a damned good reason why we should want to come there.

So here are the places we feel need a mention...

Andy's Chippy : Putnoe, Bedford.

Andy 's is Roady Nase's local chippy, so we go there a fair bit. It pretty reasonable fair, but certainly nothing remarkable.

Final Verdict : 5 out of 10
Slap in the middle, Andy's is neither exceptionally bad or good.

Tasty Plaice : Tavistock Street, Bedford

Roady Nase and I felt a bit lamed out by this place. We ordered cod and large chips each and a curry roll and normal chips for Tart With A Heart. When we came to eat our dinner, we found out 'large' portion of chips to be no bigger than TWH's smaller one. And ours cost 40p more. Lame.

Final Verdict : 2.8 out of 10
Well, it's a good way to make money, I suppose.

Harry Ramsey : Granada Services, M1 / M25 Junction

It's the ones with the green sign which you get in all motorway service stations.
Dry, crappy, small portions which cost a staggering £5.20 each! Five pounds? Hah!

Final Verdict : 0 out of 10
Five pounds? I mean, five pounds?

Copperfields : High Street, Rushden

Apparently the best fish and chip shop in Anglia, and the second best in the country. Service is a bit dodgy, and the portions are on the small side, but it tastes very good, and comes in a poly case rather than in paper, which is better. It's a bit pricey, though.

Final Verdict : 7.2 out of 10
And X-Files used to work there, too. Until we got him fired.
Ocean Blue : Just off the only roundabout in Rushden

The blokes in there are chatty, the food tastes good and it's well on the cheap side. Honest is a word that sums this place up quite well.

Final Verdict : 6.5 out of 10
You can't really go far wrong in a place like this.
Fish and Chips and More : Promenade, Hunstanton

Absolutely and without question the best Fish and Chips in England. The fish are super-fresh (they were still swimming around that morning, after all) and melt in your mouth. Piles of yummy, big chips and a nice poly case to carry it all in. It even has chairs and tables to sit on and is cheap, too.

Final Verdict : 9.6 out of 10
It'll take a lot to beat this one. Click here for directions!
